MoCHI Students Present Summer Research

Posted in Presentations

MoCHI students Soren Lera, Seth Moore, Leah Reed, and Catherine Zhang showcased their research at two recent events: Hamilton College’s Family Weekend Poster Session and the New York Six Undergraduate Research Conference at St. Lawrence University.

Soren and Leah presented their work on Pectogram, an AI-augmented communication tool inspired by the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). Pectogram explores how generative AI can support augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) by enabling users to create and adapt pictogram-based expressions to better reflect their individual voices and communicative needs.

Seth and Catherine presented the Reddit Scraping Project, which analyzes large-scale Reddit discussions to understand how people’s attitudes and behaviors have evolved in response to major societal shifts such as the transition to remote work. Their project combines data scraping, natural language processing, and qualitative analysis to uncover trends in online discourse and community sentiment.

Additionally, MOCHI student Sydney Chen presented research she conducted over the summer with Dr. Tom Helmuth, alongside Owen Dennon, showcasing their collaborative work on genetic programming.
